Fall Fashion is my absolute FAVORITE! The temperatures are perfect, the colors are beautiful, and fall is just so cozy! I know 2020 is a crazy-weird year, but I actually get to go into work every day. I am a high school teacher, so I am constantly in search of new outfits and mixing things up. If you are still only working from home & zooming, putting together an outfit is still such a mood booster and makes working from home a little bit more productive, in my opinion.
In case you are like me and sometimes need some outfit inspiration, here is a roundup of outfit ideas and how to implement them into your wardrobe….without spending a ton of money!
Outfit Idea #1
Dress + Coat + Knee High Boots
This is my go-to fall outfit. I love wearing dresses, and in the fall it is the perfect weather to layer. In Texas, it is often chilly in the mornings, warm in the afternoons, and then back to chilly in the evenings. Having a nice coat to layer with is essential. Some of my favorite and most chic looking outfits are when I pop on my camel coat over my fall dress with my Knee High Boots. This is a CLASSIC fall outfit, if you ask me!
Outfit Idea #2
all black, darling
Okay, hear me out. Normally, I am a pink ‘gal! I live for a light neutral, tans, and pale pinks in my wardrobe. However, for fall, I LOVE showcasing my darker, more editorial side with some basic black outfits. Especially for teaching, you really can’t go wrong with black jeans, a black top, and black booties. I love adding in a fun accessory like a good coat or gorgeous hair scarf to tie up the look!
Outfit Idea #3
oversized, but make it fashion
I think it is safe to say that we all live in oversized stuff now days. With the rising trend of Athleisure, baggy clothing has never been hotter! I love wearing either my Spanx Faux Leather Leggings or a good pair of jeans with an oversized and super cozy sweater on top. Balancing out the baggy top with a fitted bottom is the perfect combo. I would pair this with white booties or OTK boots for an extra layer of sophistication.
Outfit Idea #4
Mix it up with your Cardigan
In the past, cardigans have always been worn to layer with. You put on a cute tank top or shirt and throw on a cardigan for warmth. Now days though, the full-button up cardigan tucked into a pair of jeans with a belt is my go to! I love getting basic cardigans from H&M and then doing a cute little front tuck to amp up the outfit. PRO TIP: Pick cardigans that are more form fitting and a thinner material. The more bulky the cardigan, the more bulk it adds to your figure when you tuck it in making you resemble a marshmallow. No one likes that!
Outfit Idea #5
midi skirt + a sweater
This outfit has been something I have been rotating through almost weekly this school year. Midi skirts are so flattering (as long as you get the correct length for your body) and pairing a soft sweater with it makes it ultra comfy. For this outfit to work, you want to play with your proportions. If you have a really flow-y skirt, pair it with a thinner, more form fitting sweater. This will help it tuck in better, add less bulk, and create a more elegant shape. If you have a form fitted skirt (think Knit skirts!), then pairing a chunky knit sweater on top will play up that proportion and be super chic. I also love adding a high-waisted belt to add that extra touch of glam!
Outfit Idea #6
blazer me, baby!
Blazers are not only for the Corporate office! I have been adding so many blazers to my collection and they are always a big hit at the school! They add that look of “I actually put in effort today” without actually having to! My go to outfit is a pair of dark wash jeans, a basic tee or tank, and then pop on a tan/neutral blazer on top. This outfit is so minimally chic and I love it. If you are wearing an oversized blazer, you want to make sure that your jeans are more fitted to help create shape and good proportions. If you are wearing a more fitted/cropped blazer, you can have more fun on the bottom!
Outfit Idea #7
welcome to the 60s!
For some reason, whenever fall rolls around, my retro self really starts to make an appearance. Playing with fabrics (like Tweed, my favorite) and adding headbands is one of my favorite things to do! Find yourself a tweed blazer, handbag, or even skirt/dress to really play up this trend. Think classic Jackie Kennedy or Chanel. Pop on a headband and hello, Blair Waldorf!
Outfit Idea #8
play it up with your pants
Something I have been itching to add to my wardrobe are some waxed jeans. If you have no idea what I am talking about, these jeans are AMAZING. They are a denim fit, but they have a “waxed” coating on top to create a shine. I like these better than leather pants just because leather makes weird noises when you walk, can have the “diaper” effect when you wear them, and honestly, if you don’t get a really good pair, they can look really unflattering. Waxed jeans, however, look amazing. These really elevate your outfit without even TRYING!
Outfit Idea #9
tights, tights, and more tights
Call me old fashioned, but I love a cute pair of tights. This is great this time of year because if you want to wear a dress/skirt/shorts but it is chilly at night, you can simply add a layer of warmth with some chic tights. I love black sheer tights, but now days they also have some with gorgeous designs on them! Add these to a plain outfit and instantly can walk the runway. I have been dying to get my hands on a pair of sheer sparkly tights. LOVE.
Outfit Idea #10
basic fall gal
To end my fall outfit ideas post, I couldn’t think of anything better than the most basic fall girl outfit: leggings, flannel, combat boots. But, let’s be honest, it is basic for a reason. This outfit is so simple and easy to wear and ALWAYS a hit. I would find your favorite flannel and either wear that with leather leggings, waxed jeans, or dark wash denim and do a cute little front tuck. You can wear your favorite combat boots or even slouchy boots for a more sophisticated look. What do you think? Is this your favorite, too?
