Fitness Friday #5: What you are MISSING

Happy Friday, loves! Something that I get asked about A LOT is what are my top tips to losing weight/looking good/going on a diet….and anything like that. As most of you know, I am a dance teacher, so a lot of my students ask me for nutrition and workout plans (more on that coming soon!! EEEK!!!). I love helping out anyone that I can with fitness, even though most of the time I feel like I am still on the upwards climb to my own! Some days I have abs. Some days I am bloated. Some days I feel super lean. Some days I feel like I have thunder thighs. The list goes on. Basically what I am trying to say is that WE ALL go through these times and you are not alone.

Recently, there has been something that has truly been on my heart. Something that will make the BIGGEST difference in your fitness journey. It has nothing to do with what meal plan you follow (paleo, keto, high carb, bro diet, vegan, vegetarian, etc.), and nothing to do with what kind of workout routine you follow (kayla itsines, weight lifting, cross fit, pilates, HIIT, cardio, ballet, etc.). This one factor is probably the hardest thing for most of us to hear….because none of us want to admit that we are in this category.

So, what’s the point I am slowly getting at?

We need to stop comparing ourselves and our journey’s to others. STOP. Stop.

It makes me so sad. With social media now days, it is so easy to either fake your results, contour your abs, or critique someone from behind your little screen. What happened to encouraging others, uplifting others, and supporting one another. So one person likes to eat carbs and you don’t. Does that make your way of life the only way to be “fit”? NO.

Story Time.

I have been on my fitness journey for years now. I started when I first got into college and have learned, grown, messed up, researched, and planned ever since. Do I consider myself a fit person? YES! But recently…. I have been second guessing that statement. I’ve been hearing people say things like “oh that person is not fit. They have no abs”. Or, “oh, they don’t know what fitness is because they could lose 10 pounds”. WHAT IN THE WORLD. I’ve been seeing these comments on social media and it has GOT to stop.

Since when is fitness just about your outwards appearance? I would rather have a healthy body and mind than just have a rock hard six pack. Yes, we all want to look good in our bikinis, but we should never get so focused on ourselves that we start tearing down others just to boost ourselves up. When you are at the gym and see another girl walk in (who just might look better than you?!?!), do you immediately think of all the ways you are better, stronger, more fit? This might make you feel good in that moment, but it really does eat at your soul.

I really hope that my blog can inspire you and give you a sense of community when it comes to reaching for your fitness goals. I am not perfect. I do not have a solid six pack. I like desserts. I love pancakes & lattes. Some days I really don’t feel like working out. But at the end of the day, I love health and fitness and giving my body the proper nutrition to be the best that I can be. There is no ONE way to achieving “fitness”. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, let’s celebrate that! Share this post with a friend and make a pact to encourage and motivate one another this year. Bring on 2018!!!
