Hello, hello! This post has been on my mind for MONTHS now and I am so excited to finally share it with y’all. When it comes to friendships, I am a firm believer on accumulating deep, real friendships. I have never been one for being shallow or superficial. I would much rather have deep talks than just scratching the surface.
I graduated college a year ago….and this past year in the “real world” has been hard on my friendships. You pretend like you know everything coming out of college, but in reality, NO ONE really knows what they’re doing. Because I was trying to find the work/life balance and figure out what exactly I was doing with my life, a lot of my friendships suffered. Nothing bad happened, don’t worry, but because everyone is so busy or we live in different cities/states, growing your already great friendships can be hard.
What our Friendships should look like
Friendships are so important. I believe that God has called us into a Gospel Centered Community. What does this mean? It means that we need to surround ourselves with people who are also after Jesus. Anyone have those friendships where we all know that we are “Christians“, but bringing up Jesus is weird? You know, when someone brings up Jesus and then they are silently classified as that “Jesus Freak”? Friendships should not be like that.
The Challenge
I have a challenge for you AND for me. After reading this post, I challenge you to text a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Someone who is a great friend, but for some reason y’all haven’t contacted that frequently. Text them and try to hang out with them. Hey, maybe even round up your old friend group again and all get coffee or grab lunch. Sometimes with friendships, it is YOU that has to make the first initial contact. Sometimes, we feel like no one wants to invest their time into you or you find yourself feeling lonely. Does this happen to anyone else? Well, I like to think of it this way; if you have beautiful flowers but never water them, why would you expect them to grow and thrive? They will shrivel up and you will have to throw them away. The same goes with friendships. You can’t just sit back and expect your friendship to always grow and be amazing if you never take time to water it. That means YOU taking the first step sometimes.
My challenge for you is to text one friend. Right now. Say; Hey! I miss you. Wanna grab coffee sometime this week? Then, while y’all hang out, I challenge you to get deeper. Don’t just scratch the surface. If you wanna talk about Jesus, talk about Jesus. These are the kinds of conversations that when you leave, you feel better about life. These are the kinds of friendships that you need in your life. Life is too short not to invest in your friendships. God has called us to live in community….so go do His will and call up a friend!
If you do this challenge, I would love to see! Snap a picture together and instagram it! Tag me in your picture. I would LOVE to see and build this community together! Use the hashtag #GlamSquadCommunity
Seriously, I love every single one of you! Thank you so much for reading my blog, connecting with me on Instagram, and always encouraging me. Y’all are the absolute best. Now… go call a friend!
