Who else is excited for fall?! I love this time of year. The transition into autumn is my favorite time for finding new fashion pieces, getting your wardrobe ready for new trends, and organizing! I have been on a major cleaning kick lately and have been donating so many clothes! Going through my closet and looking at exactly WHAT I have in there is so good for me. I tend to forget what I already have from last year and just want to buy new new new. Anyone else? It’s a problem. But, this way, I am organizing everything and getting a good idea of what I have to work with already and just adding in a few key pieces.
Key Autumn Trends
These may be things you already have in your closet from summer or last season, so be sure to check!! I think it IS important to upgrade some things in your closet, so look at what you already have and decide what items you need to add!
Midi Dresses: Like the dress in this post, midi dresses are so flattering and perfect for fall! Because fall is starting to get a little bit cooler in temps, wearing a dress that is a little bit longer is a MUST. I love wearing dresses, so even when the temps get colder I don’t want to give them up! This dress is SUPER soft and comfy (feels like you’re wearing your pajamas all day, which is nice!). I would pair this dress with some wedges when the temp feels nice. As it gets colder, I would wear a cute leather jacket and some black booties to stay a little more warm!
Denim Jacket: Denim jackets have been super popular lately. The 90’s really are making a comeback. Denim jackets are so easy to throw on over your outfit because they just add to a look, not distract. I have a cropped denim jacket, but my favorite one is definitely the oversized denim jackets.
Over the Knee Boots: The most classic fall staple, in my opinion. Over the Knee boots look so good with your fall transitioning dresses. Find a dress that is short/summery, and make it more in season by accessorizing it with OTK boots. These instantly make an outfit look more like fall. I’ll even wear these with my cut off denim shorts I wore all summer! In Texas, it stays hot all the way into November, so being able to add in some fall pieces without breaking a sweat is a MUST.
Sweater Dress: This is something I have been looking to add into my closet this fall. I have a lot of oversizes sweaters (which, we all know I love), but sometimes you just don’t want to wear pants! A sweater dress is perfect for that fall transition because you’re not wearing too many layers. I would wear a cute sweater dress with either OTK boots or ankle booties for a perfect fall outfit.
Black Jeans: I have an amazing pair of black denim that is such good quality and I will be wearing on REPEAT this fall. Black jeans are so slimming and look great with so many different outfits. When it gets colder outside, I’ll trade in my thin leather leggings for black skinny jeans. Black jeans are just such a staple that everyone needs!
Leather Leggings: The trendiest thing for fall. We all love it, right?! Grabbing a good pair of leather leggings is a MUST. These have been trendy for a few season now, and I don’t anticipate them going anywhere soon. Get some for fall! You’ll have so much fun styling them different ways.
Mules: In summer, it is so nice and easy to just slide on a sandal and run out the door. In fall, it gets annoying having to find a good pair of socks, grab your boots, try to get them on quickly, adjust them…you know the drill! That’s where a great pair of mules comes in. These can easily just slid on, but they give you more protection and warmth for the fall!
Oversized Sweaters: A sweater that covers your booty, slouches off your shoulder, and is super soft and cuddly is a MUST. Once you find the perfect one, you’ll never want to let it go. My favorite color sweater to always have in my closet is an ivory/cream sweater. You can wear different color barrettes underneath, wear it with leather leggings, cut off shorts, OTK boots, heels…. so many options!
