How to Maximize your Closet

When it comes to my wardrobe, it can feel like a constant battle. If you ever find yourself buying more and more clothes and then never wearing them again, this post is for you. Maximizing your closet is such a skill that often is NEVER taught. Especially in our consumeristic society, we are taught to want more, need more, and covet all the latest things we see on social media without even batting an eyelash about the cost or absurdity.

It’s always funny for me when I am doing my quarterly closet clean outs to see all the trendy pieces I bought THINKING I needed them to be fashionable, that they would significantly up my style game, and I would wear them often. In reality, I maybe wore that trendy top once..those crazy pants one time…. is that worth the investment?

If you want to maximize your closet, you need to leave the mindset of “more, more, more” and adopt the belief of creativity, quality, and functionality…with style of course.

How to Maximize your Closet

Before you grab your wallet and head to your favorite shopping mall, take a good, long look into your current closet. Try EVERYTHING on. Ask yourself:

  1. Have I worn this in the past 8 months?
  2. Do I like how this fits?
  3. Can I use this item in multiple outfits?

If you checked “no” in any of these boxes, set that item aside and keep going through your closet. When you are done, look at your “no” pile and decide if it’s just an item you forgot you loved and you’ll definitely wear it again…or if it needs to go to someone who will actually wear it. After all, your clothes are meant to be worn!
