My Fall Basics 2021 || Classic & Girly Style

YAY FALL FASHION!!! My favorite time of the year for fashion, style, and just the overall vibe of fall. I have already started my fall decorating in our apartment, which I am so excited about! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Every season, there are all these new trends, things to buy, etc… so I wanted to make a list of items that are MY essentials for fall… not what someone on TikTok says haha!

Leather Leggings are a MUST for me. The Spanx Leather Leggings are something I purchase almost every year. They are just so comfortable, feel amazing on, and look so chic and pulled together without even trying. I have some basic leather ones but then also some Moto style ones. You will see me rocking these all fall and winter long, so if you want to get some style inspiration from here and twin with me, you will need a pair haha! I wear my leather leggings with sweaters all. the. time. This is my go-to outfit when I “have nothing to wear“.

Oversized coats are a must for me. Finding the right coat is essential, based on your height and stature. For me, an oversized coat with a belt really looks great, put together, but still warm and layered. To make any outfit instantly cooler, pair an oversized coat with it! I love neutral coats like a good camel or black, but recently I have had my eye on a hot pink one to really add some flair!

Cardigans are the most essential…some sometimes boring….essential for fall. In my opinion, it is all about how you style them. I only have a couple cardigans, but they do help pull an outfit together when you are in a pinch. I love my long black cardigan for fall and winter. It is super comfortable and helps make an outfit look a little more polished. I love the chunky oatmeal colored ones that are super oversized for a great layering piece. I would stray away from overly tight cardigans or anything with too much pattern (ex: stripes). While these are cute, they are not essential. If you are still trying to build up your fall wardrobe, stick to the oversized neutrals.

I love booties….but so does almost every woman in the world. So, how do you stand out? Find the trend, but spice it up a little. You will never catch me wearing low heel, round toe booties. Like literally ever. What can you catch me in? A 2-3 inch heel, slightly pointed toe boot…either white or a neutral tan. These pair so well with virtually any outfit, help elevate your outfit without being uncomfortable or having a hard time to walk in.

People love or hate these…and obviously I am in the camp of I LOVE THEM. They pair so perfectly with leather leggings, skirts, jeans… literally anything. I especially love them when the weather gets colder because they provide an extra layer of warmth. If you don’t have a pair yet and you are looking to add to your wardrobe, I would choose either a black or a cognac color. Both are super versatile, easy to wear with lots of different things, and super chic. My favorite style is a moderate, 2-3 inch heel. As you can all probably tell, I like a little bit of a heel to my boots.

My favorite skirts are my ruffle skorts I have been wearing on repeat all year! They’re so fun, girly, and look ah-mazing with boots and an oversized blazer. I also have more simple plaid skirts or suede skirts that are more figure-hugging for a more streamline look. My favorite by far are the more ruffle-frilly skirts. Pair these with a fun pair of sneakers, OTK boots, or even loafers for a super chic fall look.

I love oversized sweaters! Like I said earlier, you can literally always dealt to an oversized sweater if you are in a pickle. Don’t want to look like everyone else? Pair it with some cool boots and fun accessories. Just because you have a “basic” for a fall wardrobe piece, doesn’t mean you have to be…basic. My favorite ones are camel colors, black, gray, and PINK!! If you are looking to up your sweater game, try adding some fun colors so you don’t blend in with the crowd. I’m thinking red, pink, lavender, blue, ORANGE. Have fun with your style!

So yes, leather leggings have their own category. Let’s move on to OTHER leather pieces. Leather is such a staple for fall and it is oh so chic. My favorite leather pieces to add would be leather shorts paired with some fun tights, maybe some leather boots, if you are feeling flirty maybe a leather jacket, too. I can confidently say that I will never wear a leather blazer haha…but to each their own!

Now I think we all know I am in love with tweed….so that’s an obvious for me. BUT, even if tweed isn’t your thing, it would be good to add some “texture” to your wardrobe. Things like tweed, houndstooth, silk, etc….basically things that mix it up. Fall is all about different fabrics that you can play with to have some fun. If you want to start off easy, add a texture blazer or even a skirt!

Last but most certainly not least, blazers are essential! I have a tan blazer and a plaid blazer, of which both I love. My favorite is by far the tan blazer though. It is the perfect oversized fit and is so easy to throw on over any outfit. Next up on my list to buy is an oversized black blazer. Things to look for in the perfect blazer: if you are buying oversized, make sure the shoulder pads line up with YOUR shoulder. Too many times, I see women with the oversized blazer look that their shoulders are like…down to their elbows lol! SO not flattering. Get a blazer that is called “oversized” or “boyfriend” and then get your true size…don’t size up 3 sizes to create the oversized look.

Bonus round!! You can forget about your hair! In the fall I love adding headbands, hair scarfs, scrunchies, even a fun hat! I love having an easy fall outfit and then making my hair look more fun with a simple silk bow or a headscarf. Especially when your hair is like….day 3 or 4 and just not looking great….a hat or hair accessory makes it instantly look so much better!
