Travel Guide: Kansas City 2024

This December, I tagged along on one of Andrew’s work trips! I always love going to Kansas City during Christmas time because it is SO festive and pretty. We like to stay near The Plaza because of the shopping and the Christmas lights!

Where we Stayed:

This trip, we stayed at The Fontaine Hotel. Such a cute boutique hotel with great rooms! We loved the breakfast spot on site and the restaurant. Super convenient and easy when you have long travel days. Staff was super nice and parking was easy (hotel validates it for you!). We were able to easily walk to The Plaza from our hotel (in heels!!) and even a beautiful park!

Travel Diaries:

Day One:

Day One of our trip was our travel day. We road-tripped from Dallas to KC. The only pump in the road was Andrew’s flat tire in OKC. Not ideal, but he handled it wonderfully..haha! The drive is about 7 hours from our house, so really not bad. Lunch is a good in-between stop. Once we arrived in Kansas City, we went straight to our hotel to get situated.

For dinner, we went to this restaurant right across from our hotel, Jax Seafood. I was so impressed by this restaurant. Really great food, nice staff, and cute inside! I would highly recommend. Andrew and I split the Lobster Mac & Cheese which was just SO good.

After dinner, we went to this Christmas pop up bar called Miracle on the Plaza! Super festive pop up with tons of Christmas drinks. The drinks were SUPER sweet… not sure if we liked them that much, but the atmosphere was festive. I will say, the staff was super rude…. Andrew and I joke that they were “angry elves”. If you are wanting some fun photos, this is a fun spot. But our experience wasn’t that great so I really wouldn’t recommend. I would rather just get a festive drink at a different bar on The Plaza.

Day Two:

We worked today! We started the morning by going on a walk to this beautiful park within walking distance of The Plaza. It was the perfect morning. I bundled up with my new Anthropologie earmuffs & VICI coat and had a festive morning! We then went to the coffee shop at the Intercontinental Hotel, which is so cozy with a fireplace too!

After our morning, we got ready and drove about an hour to a city called St. Joseph where Andrew had a trunk show for his work. Super fun!

We got back super late, so room service was a must! Another perk of our hotel; amazing room service!

Day Three:

This was our fun day! Our hotel had 2 peloton bikes, so we had a fun workout in the morning and then spent the day shopping on The Plaza. So many cute stores that you could easily spend the whole day here! After shopping, we met some friends at the super popular bar, Prime Social, that has the most amazing views of The Plaza. This is also the place Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift rented out for their first date… needless to say, it was PACKED. Andrew and I got a smoked old fashioned that was SO good!

After drinks at Prime Social, we went to our dinner reservation at Gram & Dun. Y’all, this place was BEYOND good. We had no idea what to expect but we loved it!! Great food, great atmosphere, great staff!

Once dinner was over, we got an Uber and went to see The Nutcracker! My first ballet! It was so fun and such a festive way to kick off the Christmas Season. Kansas City Ballet‘s adaptation of The Nutcracker was a little bit different, but still super fun!
