Who is trying to build their closest? I am currently doing a closet clean out which inspired me to write this post! Below, I have listed all of my wardrobe essentials. To SHOP everything in this post, watch the video and read the description box!
Basic Black Blouse
Black is my go-to basic. It is great for ANY season and looks good on everyone. Having a simple, easy to style, GO-TO black top in your closet is an absolute MUST.
Leather High Waisted Leggings
Leather Leggings have been in style for YEARS, and I don’t see them exiting the fashion scene for a while. I got these leggings over 4 years ago and I still wear them! You can easily dress them up/down as well. Having a good pair of leather leggings is a MUST. My favorite are the high waisted ones.
A Nice Watch & Small Black Bag
Dainty Details are my favorite. Having a good, stylish watch is one of the final touches to any outfit. This watch is from Daniel Wellington. Additionally, a small cross body bag is a great piece to have in your closet. Black, again, goes with everything and really completes an outfit. Having flashy and trendy bags is always fun, but having that go-to black bag is important.
Rain Boots
Rain boots are a must in almost every state. You don’t want to be caught in the rain without anything to wear and keep dry! When building your timeless wardrobe, opt for a pair of rain boots that are black and easy to style.
Layering Top
This one is black (of course), but really any neutral color will work. This top is light weight and easy to throw on (also super comfortable), so you can easily layer necklaces, scarves, a jacket, etc. Having a great basic top helps when you have those days of “I have nothing to wear”.
White Denim
White jeans have been in for YEARS and just like leather leggings, I don’t see them going anywhere soon. Find yourself a pair of comfy and soft jeans that you can rock anytime.
Black Booties
THESE have been a staple for me. I got these last year, but they are STILL in style. Finding a pair of black booties that you will be able to rock in any season is a must. These look amazing with a fall dress, skinny jeans, or even boyfriend shorts!
Black Blazer
Do blazers ever go out of style? I think every girl needs to have an easy-to-style blazer. This one is a boyfriend style, so it isn’t “up-tight” or too business-y…haha! You can style this with skinny jeans, a dress, skirts, ANYTHING.
Dark Wash Denim
I have spent years trying to find the best pair of jeans. Finding a good pair can be SO hard, but the search is always worth it. Dark wash denim is a staple in any closet. If you haven’t found a pair dark wash jeans that you absolutely LOVE, you need to invest in a good pair.
White V-Neck Shirt
This is the most basic of basics. A white v-neck is the perfect layering essential. You can wear it by itself, under a blazer, with lots of layers in winter, or even lounging around the house!
Tote Bag & Easy to wear Wedges
This tote bag has been something I have been wanting for AGES and never did it until just recently. Having a good tote bag for work is a MUST. Kate Spade bags are such high quality, so this bag will last you a LONG time.
Striped Layering Shirt
Stripes are the BEST, am I right? Stripes are, again, a great layering piece and a great basic. When it comes to finding the right items for your wardrobe, I always stray away from patterns and bold colors. Stripes are a good thing to include because you can pair them with anything. Save the fun patterns and bold colors for trendy pieces AFTER you’ve built your wardrobe.
Boyfriend Shorts
Boyfriend shorts are always in. You can dress them up/down and they seriously SAVE YOU on those hot summer days/nights. Rock them with a tshirt, blouse, heels, flats, anything!
Button Downs
This is such a wardrobe basic, but most people forget about them! Every girl should have a simple button down in her closet. These are great for layering, shown below, or to be worn by themselves. You can make them look more trendy by pairing it with boyfriend shorts and lots of layers, or keep it classy by buttoning it up and tucking it into a high waisted pencil skirt.
Oversized Sweater
If you know me, you know I LOVE sweaters. Oversized sweaters have been in since the 80s, so to say they aren’t going anywhere couldn’t be more true. I would try to find a neutral color sweater to start with because you can again, wear it with anything and always look good! Neon yellow might be the color of choice this fall, but it may not be next year…or even in winter!
Go-to Neutral Dress
Have a Little Black Dress? Great! You are already in an amazing place. If you haven’t found a good neutral dress yet, you need to! I love this one because it has cute ruffles on it, but it is still a classic dress. Find a good shape for your body and something that you can wear day or night based off of the accessories you pair it with.
Chunky Knit Cardigan
CARDIGANS!!! These are an absolute MUST! Every girl needs a chunky knit cream/off whit cardigan. White collects too much dirt/makeup, but black can be too harsh sometimes. This cardigan is perfect.
